Although diabetes cannot be cured, it can be treated very successfully. The main aim of treatment of all types of diabetes is to achieve blood glucose, blood pressure and cholesterol levels as near to normal as possible.

This, together with a healthy lifestyle, will help ensure wellbeing and provide protection against long-term complications. Stay Active: Being active is good for all of us but is especially important for people with diabetes. Physical activity, combined with healthy eating and medication that you may be taking will help you to manage your diabetes and prevent long term complications. If you have concerns at all about becoming active, never be afraid to ask for advice. How to start: Start gradually with a walk (can be done any time of the day) Try to achieve Ideal Body Weight Eat a balanced diet Tips to Remember: Eat three light meals a day especially with small mid meals. Choose nutritious snacks.

Eat more vegetables and fruits. Eat more whole and husk pulses than washed. Eat more whole-wheat products than refined. Take less fat especially saturated fats; use combination oils. Eat more of chutney than pickles and preserved food. Practice portion control while eating outside. Never starve yourself while observing a fast. Have fresh lime water/soda instead of juice.
