What Nuclear Medicine can do for You
Nuclear medicine can diagnose and treat diseases in a safe and painless way. It involves the use of special computers and cameras, and small doses of permitted radioactive substances introduced into the body, by injection, oral, or inhalation.
Nuclear medicine has answers to all your medical queries such as:
Is your heart pumping blood adequately, Is there a blockage in the arteries of the heart, Do you need bypass surgery / angioplasty?
Is the brain receiving adequate blood supply, are the brain cells functioning properly?
Is there a problem with the thyroid?
Are the kidneys functioning normally?
Is there a cancer, where is it, has it spread, what treatment to give?
Nuclear medicine is a great aid that tells physicians how well newly transplanted organs are functioning. It helps identify sites of seizures (epilepsy), Parkinson's disease, and Alzheimer's disease. It finds cancers, determines whether they are responding to treatment, and notifies if infected bones will heal.
Advantage of Nuclear Medicine
Nuclear Medicine involves the study of the organs at the cellular level, often picking up disease before there is a change at the structural level, making it more physiologic and more sensitive than other tests like ultrasound, CT, MRI, etc in many clinical situations.

Nuclear medicine can locate the smallest bone fracture before it can be seen on an X-ray. In fact, nuclear imaging techniques go a step beyond standard X-rays and MRIs.
It not only indicates an organ's anatomy, but also how it is functioning.
It gives critical information that otherwise would be unavailable, require surgery, or more expensive diagnostic tests.
Helps in early detection to treat diseases sooner ensuring prompt treatment and a more successful prognosis.
Useful for early detection of neurodegenerative disorders as well as myocardial disorders.
