Adolescent medicine |
| General Paediatrics |
| Max Institute of Paediatrics is staffed with the some of the best general paediatricians in the city of Delhi. From newborn problems to adolescent issues, from late night fevers to critical illnesses the general paediatrician is in partnership with families to support children through all stages of development. He/she is responsible for coordination of complete paediatric care, and the family support that is needed, and that makes all the difference. |
| Neonatology |
| We provide a state-of-the-art neonatal intensive care unit of the highest international standards. Two nurseries, beautifully designed and equipped with the most modern equipments provide care for babies born in the hospital as well as those transferred in from outside the hospital. We have a total of 12 ICU cots. Highly trained newborn specialists with experience from India and abroad look after the tiny tots. All problems related to the newborn like prematurity, need for the ventilator, delayed cry at birth, congenital anomalies etc. are taken care of. Highly experienced paediatric surgeons are available to handle all surgical problems related to the newborn. Facility for newborn cardiac care and heart surgery are available within the same complex. |
| Paediatric Cardiology |
| Paediatric cardiology department provides all non-invasive diagnostic and paediatric cardiac interventional services. The diagnostic modalities include foetal echocardiography, transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography, 24 hour Holter, CT and MR angiography and diagnostic cardiac catheterisation. The interventional or non-surgical procedures performed here include hybrid paediatric cardiac interventions, balloon atrial septostomy, device closure of atrial septal defect (ASD), patent ductus arteriosus (PDA), balloon valvuloplasty of critical pulmonary, aortic stenosis and coarctation of aorta, MAPCA coiling etc. The team includes a paediatric cardiologist, paediatric cardiac intensivist and paediatric cardiac anaesthetist. |
| Gastroenterology |
| Max Institute of Paediatrics provides the full range of services for patients with gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, pancreatic and nutritional problems. Jaundice in the newborn is very different from jaundice in an infant or older child and almost always the latter group of children will need evaluation. Jaundice in the newborn could also be a harbinger of serious disorders that need early evaluation and intervention. Constipation and diarrhoea are both very common in children and could be just related to some food intolerance or could be the cause of several other serious illnesses that may need specific investigations. Our hospital has facilities for doing endoscopy and endoscopic procedures safely and without pain on an outpatient basis for virtually all infants. |
| Nephrology |
| Max Institute of Paediatrics provides a full range of services for children suffering from kidney problems. Complicated urinary tract infections, nephrotic syndrome and nephritis are assessed fully. Dedicated real time ultrasound guided renal biopsy is available to give accurate diagnosis of various renal problems. Acute renal failure in newborns to all age groups of childhood is dealt with by providing dialysis modalities of all types including continuous renal replacement therapy. Complete work-up and treatment modalities are also available for hypertension and chronic renal failure in children. |
| Endocrinology |
The centre undertakes comprehensive work-up, and effective management with multi-disciplinary team care for children with diabetes and those suffering from growth disorders, primarily short stature. Workup with all investigations is available under one roof, including stimulation tests.
Other endocrine disorders: thyroid, pituitary, and adrenal disorders, metabolic bone disease, gonadal disorders (including delayed/precocious puberty, sexual ambiguity, cryptorchidism, CAH, precocious thelarche and pubarche, hirsuitism and polycystic ovarian syndrome, virilization, menstrual disorders, gynaecomastia) and obesity. All stimulation and suppression tests can be performed, including clonidine and insulin-hypoglycaemia stimulation for GH status, ACTH stimulation, GnRH stimulation, dexa suppression etc. Neonatal thyroid screening is routinely done, in which all newborns are being screened with TSH and T4 in the cord blood. |
| Paediatric Neurology |
| Experts on the team offer complete services for evaluation and management of children with neurological problems. Children with seizures/epilepsy, headaches, neuromuscular disorders, and sleep disorders receive individualised and specialised care. |
| Infectious Diseases |
| We provide comprehensive care to all children and adolescents with any type of infections, including chronic and recurrent infections, community acquired infections (viz. pneumonia and meningitis), unusual infections, infections associated with travel, infections in immuno-suppressed children, and post-surgical infections. This also includes evaluation of patients with fever of unknown origin and management of antibiotic treatment failures. |

| Paediatric pulmonology service is available for complex lung problems, recurrent chest infections, difficult to control asthma, paediatric and neonatal bronchoscopy, lung function study, as well as upper airway disorders, sleep apnoea and BIPAP (Bilevel positive airway pressure) therapy. |
| Paediatric Rheumatology |
| Paediatric rheumatology is that branch of paediatrics that deals with acute and chronic inflammation of the tissues of the musculoskeletal system, blood vessels and skin. Common diseases that are seen by rheumatologists are - acute and chronic childhood arthritis, blood vessel inflammation - vasculitis (commonly known as Henoch-Schonlein purpura and Kawasaki disease) - systemic lupus erythematosus, juvenile dermatomyositis, juvenile scleroderma, skeletal dysplasia, pain and hypermobility syndromes, pyrexia of unknown origin and systemic diseases with musculoskeletal manifestations. |

| Paediatric Surgery |
Paediatric surgery deals with comprehensive surgical care of children, from newborns to 18 year olds. Children differ from adults in their structure, physical requirements, the kinds of illnesses they suffer from, and in the way they need to be treated, especially surgically. Children aren't, and therefore should not be treated like mini-adults. At the Max Institute of Paediatrics, we recognise this special need of children and their anxious parents. A full complement of very senior and experienced surgeons provide round-the-clock care. The surgeons are skilled in the handling of the very delicate and miniature tissues of babies. They specialise in all routine and complex surgery of neonates, children and adolescents and are able to give surgical results that match the best standards across the world. The various subspecialities covered include neonatal surgery, paediatric urology and gastrointestinal surgery, thoracic surgery, reconstructive surgery, paediatric orthopaedics and neurosurgery.
Max Institute of Paediatrics also specialises in minimal invasive surgery (laparoscopy) in children, which is a relatively new surgical technique, with the use of specially designed scopes (tubes containing camera). The doctor operates these without making large and painful incisions. It allows children to recuperate faster and with less pain and reduces hospital stay. We are the centre with the largest experience of laparoscopic surgery in children in northern India.
A large number of operations in children can now be done as day cases. In this, the child comes into hospital on the morning of surgery, undergoes the procedure and goes home in the evening. This makes the surgical experience comfortable and pleasant for the child and the family.
Among the operations commonly performed are the following: |
 |
hernia and hydrocele in children |
 |
undescended testis |
 |
operations on the kidneys for obstruction, hydronephrosis |
 |
surgery for vesicoureteral reflux |
 |
hypospadias repair |
 |

 |
surgery in newborns including tracheo-esophageal fistula, diaphragmatic hernia, intestinal obstruction |
