Bananas: This wholesome fruit has been misconstrued as not so healthy. In fact it is packed with vitamins and minerals including vitamin C, potassium, fibre and antioxidants. The sugar present in it is a naturally occurring sugar and not an added one like in processed and packaged foods.

Honey coating in breakfast cereals, high fructose corn syrup in breads are examples of added sugar and not natural. Bananas can be used as an excellent snack in between meals or a pre-workout snack.

Butter: It is considered bad because of its high saturated fat content. Butter like all dairy products is high in Vitamin A, D, Calcium and Phosphorus. It has a naturally occurring saturated fat which may actually be good if taken in moderation as compared to trans-fat and processed fat in margarine.

Chocolate: This comfort food has become maligned because of addition of a lot of sugar and fat. Dark chocolate has more of the antioxidant properties than milk chocolate.Eating a small amount of dark chocolate could even protect you against cancer.A cup of hot chocolate milk is a good post-workout drink.

Coffee: Coffee with a lot of other foods has joined the rank of unlikely foods with health benefits. Keeping the sugar and cream optimum, research reveals coffee can help improve concentration, prevent Alzheimer's, Depression and Diabetes. 2-3 cups of coffee in a day should be fine but anything more can cause sleep disturbances, anxiety, and may also foster dependency on caffeine.Cheenu Prashar - Clinical Nutritionist
