Fighting Cancer is tough for the patients as well as their family members. The journey is long and difficult.

After completing Cancer treatment, while patients and their families are relieved, they are often afraid of its recurrence.

A few suggestions on reducing the risk of recurrence are mentioned below:

  1. Complete your treatment as prescribed by your Oncologist. Do not leave your treatment incomplete at any point of time.
  2. Go for regular follow-ups and monitor all investigations, as recommended by your oncologists.
  3. Eat a healthy diet. Major portion of your diet should be from plant sources, including vegetables, fruits, dry fruits etc. Avoid or limit consumption of meat, fried products and processed foods.
  4. Stay away from tobacco. If you were earlier a regular tobacco user and find it difficult to quit, please speak to your physician and seek medical help.
  5. Avoid or limit alcohol intake.
  6. Be regular in your physical activity regimen like yoga, walk, others. Immediately after cancer treatment completion, many patients feel lack of energy or have neuropathies, due to which they find it difficult to walk, jog etc. Don’t worry and try to gradually build up your exercise regimen and routine.
  7. Maintain a healthy body weight. Many patients gain weight during cancer treatment, as a result of either medication, over feeding or decreased physical activity. Try and lose this excess weight. Several scientific studies have proven that chances of cancer reoccurrence are lesser in patients who maintain their body weight.
  8. Have positive thoughts. Do yoga, meditation, affirmative writing and join cancer support groups to cultivate the right thoughts.
