Diet Precautions during Monsoons
According to Dr. Manjari Chandra, in the monsoon season we need to be very careful about the diet we consume. The weakening of digestive system can lead to formation of gas or indigestion. Below are few do’s and don’ts that you can follow to enjoy the rains:
· Try to avoid eating raw vegetables as they contain bacteria and virus. If you are having a weak digestive system try consuming more of steamed veggies and salads.
· It is essential to wash all fruits and veggies primarily leafy vegetables like cauliflower, spinach as they contain larvae and worms. Among fruits you can opt for mangoes, pomegranates, bananas, cherries and litchis.
· Moong dal should be the ideal choice for monsoon season as it is easy to digest. The dal is most liked by children and adults and is eaten with full zest. Adding ginger, garlic, pepper, jeera powder, coriander and turmeric increases your immunity.
· You must drink warm beverages like green tea, soups, masala tea (cardamom tea, ginger tea), which will keep up away from cough and cold, throat infections.
· Drink enough water in office, home to avoid thirst and the necessity to drink water outside. Prefer drinking only boiled and filtered water so that it can be consumed within 24 hours. Also, you can drink either natural coconut water or tetra-packed ones.

· Try to limit your intake of sodium in foods as excess salt leads to high blood pressure and water retention. Rather it is advisable to consume fresh prepared food.
· Eat Green Vegetables – Recommended is to include lots n lots of green vegetables in your daily diet. It is because they have a good amount of nutrients that will keep you fit during this rainy/monsoon season. Just make sure that you are washing all your vegetables with luke-warm water or with water added with salt to get rid of the dirt accumulated in it. You also have an option to blanch the vegetables in order to remove their dirt and germs if any in them.
