Tobacco (Nicotine) is fairly addictive substance and acts through the dopamine reward pathways in the brain. Even though people know its use is quite injurious to health, people have started consuming it at a younger age. It is also considered to be a gateway drug that opens the door for other drugs of abuse.

Tobacco contains approximately 2500 chemicals and cigarette contains approximately 4000 chemicals.

Psychologically: majority of the people who smoke, wish to quit it at some point in their lives. There are effective treatments available for quitting tobacco including certain medications and Counseling/ relaxation techniques.

Self-Help tips:

          • Set a quit date
          • Announce the date to the people close to you-so that you are hesitant to smoke/use tobacco in front of them.
          • Try to follow a healthy lifestyle (include - eating healthier meals, frequent oral fluids, engaging in some regular exercise)
          • Avoid keeping tobacco products at home to avoid easy access.
          • Whenever feeling the urge to use tobacco ; remind yourself of all the potential negatives.

Thinks to remember :

            • 12 hrs of quitting smoking : The carbon-monoxide levels in the blood drop towards Normal.
            • 3 months of quitting : Circulation and lung functions improve.
