How to do self breast examination


  • Stand before a mirror. Clasp hands behind your head and press handsforward while watching closely the level of the nipples, any nipple retraction or dimpling of skin anywhere on the breast.


  • Press hands firmly on hips and bow slightly towards the mirror as you pull your shoulders and elbows forward and look for the same things as in Step 1.


  • Use fingers of your right hand to feel for any unusual lump.


  • Repeat the exam on your right breast.


  • Gently squeeze each nipple and look for a discharge.


  • Lie down and repeat steps 3 and 5.
