Brushing your teeth twice a day and cleaning your tongue not only removes the bacteria but also freshens your breath. Flossing and using inter-dental cleaning aids, keeps gums healthy and prevents hidden cavities.
Diabetic patients with heart disease and individuals with a family history of same should be twice as careful with their oral hygiene and should undergo routine checks for underlying gum diseases and hidden cavities. Scaling and polishing should be done twice a year to maintain a good oral hygiene.
Drink plenty of water, at least 8 to 10 glasses a day and avoid aerated drinks and junk food.
