Minimally invasive surgery allows surgeons to insert knee replacement implants through a small incision
Max Super Speciality Hospital, Shalimar Bagh, has led the way in developing new and innovative techniques for minimally invasive surgery (MIS). With the use of small incisions, customised instruments and innovative imaging techniques, many surgeries may be performed with less pain and minimal scarring. The result is a rapid recovery, high patient satisfaction, and the best possible outcome. Minimally invasive surgery is performed with an incision of about five inches, unlike traditional Knee Replacement which requires an incision of about 10 inches.
At Max Super Speciality Hospital, Shalimar Bagh, minimally invasive surgery is performed by well-trained, highly experienced orthopaedic surgeons. Our orthopaedic surgeons understand the problem and share their experience with minimally invasive knee replacement surgery, and the possible risks and benefits of the techniques for individual treatments.
Minimally-invasive surgery allows surgeons to insert the same time-tested reliable knee replacement implants through a shorter incision using surgical approach that avoids trauma to the quadriceps muscle, which is the most important muscle group around the knee. However, it is important to know that MIS technique might not be suitable for all kinds of patients.
Candidates for minimally incision procedures are thinner, younger, healthier and more motivated to participate in the rehabilitation process, compared to patients who undergo the traditional surgery. Overweight, obese or very muscular patients, those who have undergone other knee surgeries earlier or patients who suffer significant deformity or instability of knee, are less suitable for MIS of knee.
