What is Premature Ejaculation?

Premature Ejaculation occurs when a man climaxes sooner than normal during the intercourse. In other words, the release of the semen from the body is ejaculation, and when it happens sooner, it is known as Premature Ejaculation. It is the most common sexual problem faced by the men today, with stats suggesting that 1 in 3 men face this condition. Even though there is no set time when a man should ejaculate; however, having an orgasm before intercourse or under a minute after starting hints towards premature ejaculation. The early climax may not be a sign of worry but can be frustrating at times. It can even happen before penetration is achieved.

What are the Symptoms of Premature Ejaculation?

The primary symptom of premature ejaculation is the incompetence to delay orgasm for more than a minute after penetration. Men experience periods of both rapid ejaculation and normal ejaculation. The common premature ejaculation symptoms include:

  • Diminishing sexual pressure because of lack of control over ejaculation
  • Ejaculation that happens in a routine with decidedly less sexual stimulation
  • Feelings of frustration, guilt or embarrassment

What are the Risk Factors for Premature Ejaculation

There is no definite cause for this problem, but there are specific risk factors. Some psychological and medical factors contribute to the premature ejaculation, including:

  • Erectile Dysfunction: It may put a man at risk of rapid climax. They may hurry through sex consciously or maybe unconsciously with the fear that they may lose their erection.
  • Medical Problems: Health issues like heart conditions or any other health-related issue rush a man through their own Research shows that heart patients usually complain of a decrease in satisfaction after a surgery or heart attack.
  • Stress: It can limit the ability to focus on the sexual encounter; thus, leading to premature
  • Medicines: There are certain medicines which influence the hormones and neuron levels leading to premature ejaculation.

How is Premature Ejaculation Diagnosed?

The doctor will ask about the medical history and may conduct a physical exam. The male hormone levels coupled with blood tests might be suggested if a person experiences both premature ejaculation and erectile dysfunction. Although there are no specific guidelines, the treatment is basically done on a detailed sexual history which includes the following parameters:

  • Perception of control over ejaculation
  • The time within which a man ejaculates
  • Frequency
  • Lifelong or occurred recently

How is Premature Ejaculation Treated?

The premature ejaculation treatment options include medications, counselling, behaviour techniques and anaesthetics. The most effective treatment might be a combination of both drug therapy and behavioural treatment.

  • Behavioural Techniques: Majority of the men uses techniques like stop and start wherein they stimulate their penis until they are about to have an orgasm and then you repeat it. The squeeze technique also works fine where the partner may squeeze the tip of the penis until they lose the erection.
  • Pelvic Floor Exercises: The pelvic floor muscles need to be strengthened, and the doctor may suggest some Kegel exercises.
  • Medications: Creams, anti-depressants, analgesics and tramadol can be used to treat Premature Ejaculation. However, they can have some side effects too. Consulting a doctor instead of self-medicating is important.
