A video showing how cryotherapy & limb salvage surgery at Max Hospital, Patparganj helped Bibi Sediqi, a 10 Years old from Afghanistan to beat osteosarcoma bone cancer. Bibi had swelling and pain in her right knee after she fell in school while playing. Her condition was not improving, and above all, she was not able to walk. Bibi's parents being worried took her to different hospitals in Afghanistan where the doctors said that she had bone cancer and the only way to help her survive was amputation (removal of a diseased part from the body). Bibi's parents were really sad hearing this and decided to take Bibi to India for treatment with the hope that her leg could be saved. They visited Max Hospital, Patparganj where Dr Vivek Sharma took charge of her case. After consulting with the oncology board, it was decided that through limb salvage surgery, Bibi's leg could be saved. After going through 3 chemotherapies, the surgery was done. Further, cryotherapy which is a method of killing tumor in nitrogen liquid was also done. Dr Vivek also used customized expandable megaprosthesis in this operation which is a new technique of putting artificial bone which can grow and expand with age. Today, Bibi can walk properly, and her parents are quite happy.
