Overview
Trauma refers to an injury caused by an external source. It can also be described as a physical wound or injury, such as a fracture or blow.
Common warning signs that indicate the need for treatment include:
- Depression/Anxiety
- Abuse of drugs and/or alcohol
- Inability to trust others
- Difficulty concentrating
- Feeling uncomfortable or anxious
The leading cause of traumatic death is blunt trauma, motor vehicle accidents and falling accidents, subsets of blunt trauma, are the number one and two causes of traumatic death. The use of drugs such as alcohol and illicit drug use increase the risk of trauma, by making traffic collisions, violence, and abuse more likely.
