Total Knee Replacement in post COVID19 patient

Mrs. Anjana Aggarwal, a 53 year old women suffered from bilateral knee arthritis, disabled with osteoarthritis of both knees visited Max Hospital, Saket. She was suffering from pain in both knees for many years. Pain was gradually increasing since years and it was difficult for her to manage and do day to day activities. During the pandemic Dr. Mahajan was trying to manage her pain with medicines and physiotherapy but every modality was failing. During this time, she developed COVID19 infection, through which she recovered completely but condition of her knee started deteriorating. When all modalities failed and disease progressed to a level that she was not able to walk properly, after thorough discussion, she decided to undergo Total Knee Replacement. A thorough pre-anaesthetic work up was done which included blood investigations and heart tests, followed by the surgery. After two months of surgery, the patient is walking independently pain free. Joint replacement surgeries are safe in COVID times if appropriate measures are taken and strict social distancing protocols are followed
