Max Smart's first Robotic Knee Replacement Surgery

in Max Super Speciality Hospital, Saket

Jan 05 , 2023

A 62-year-old man from Somalia, complained of pain in both the knees and diculty in walking for the past 10 years. He was under tremendous pain, which intensified over the last three years. He used stick support even for normal walk.

The patient came to Max Smart Super Speciality Hospital, Saket, and when Dr Ramneek Mahajan and his team examined him, they confirmed severe deformities in his left knee (varus/bow leg). The patient also showed a history of PTCA (stenting in 2013, 2014 and 2022) and lumbar spine fixation in 2022 for his back pain. Considering multiple co-morbidities, he was carefully evaluated and was suggested to undergo Robotic Knee replacement surgery. He underwent a CT scan, and a customised treatment plan for him was created. He underwent a Robotic Left Knee Replacement and was allowed to bend his knee and walk just 2 hours post-surgery and confirmed of minimal pain. He was discharged on the 3rd day of the surgery. The patient rehabilitated without complications and walked independently without any support at the end of 2 weeks. The patient is currently comfortable and doing all his routine activities
