Overview
This heart condition refers to the damage or defect in one or more of the four valves – mitral, tricuspid, aortic and pulmonic valves, present in the heart. Common conditions that can cause valvular heart disease are congenital valve disease and rheumatic fever. It can also occur due to ageing. Its symptoms can occur suddenly and need medical attention. Some of the common symptoms are:
- Wheezing and shortness of breath
- Swelling in feet, hands or abdomen
