EUS

Endoscopic ultrasound is a minimally invasive procedure to assess digestive (gastro and pancreatobiliary) and lung diseases. It produces detailed images of the lining and walls of digestive tract and chest, a nearby organ such as pancreas, liver and lymph nodes. Endoscopic ultrasound has evolved from a diagnostic imaging modality to one that can also be used for invasive diagnostics and therapeutic procedures. It is the best imaging model to diagnose a pancreatic tumour, cysts, stones and lymph nodes while it also acts as a therapeutic tool for cancer-related pain.

Stereotactic Body Radio Therapy

Stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) is a non-surgical radiation therapy that delivers a high dose of radiation to destroy the tumour while reducing the possibility of damaging the healthy tissues. It is a procedure as similar to treating Central Nervous System (CNS), except that it treats the tumours outside CNS. Depending on the size and location of the tumour, the patient is usually given a treatment in a single dose or more than 5 doses. It is usually meant for treating small tumours (3-7cms) of pelvic, kidney, spine liver as well as prostate cancer, pancreatic cancer and sarcomas throughout the body. The equipment has the capability to adjust itself according to the tumour's physical and biological parameters in order to deliver the right dosage, which is precisely targeted to kill the cancerous cells.

HIPEC

Hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) treats advanced stage abdominal cancers, including appendiceal (appendix) cancer, colorectal cancer, primary peritoneal cancer, peritoneal mesothelioma, ovarian and stomach cancer. It is a highly concentrated, heated chemotherapy treatment that is delivered directly to the abdomen during surgery. Unlike systemic chemotherapy delivery, which circulates throughout the body, HIPEC delivers chemotherapy directly to cancer cells in the abdomen. This allows for higher doses of chemotherapy treatment. Heating the solution may also improve the absorption of chemotherapy drugs by tumors and destroy microscopic cancer cells that remain in the abdomen after surgery. The technology minimizes the rest of the body’s exposure to chemotherapy; and reduces some chemotherapy side effects. Before the patient receives HIPEC treatment, our experts perform cytoreductive surgery to remove visible tumors from the abdomen. It is a novel technique in which those abdominal malignancies are treated which were previously thought to be untreatable and were offered only palliative care.

lvad

LVAD (Left Ventricular Assisted Device) is designed to improve survival and quality of life of patients with end-stage heart failure. Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) is a surgically implantable mechanical pump that is attached to the heart. An LVAD is different from an artificial heart. An artificial heart replaces the failing heart completely whereas an LVAD works with the heart to help it pump more blood with less work. It does this by continuously taking blood from the left ventricle and moving it directly to the aorta, which then delivers oxygen-rich blood throughout the body. The device is placed in the left ventricle (main chamber of the heart) to pump oxygen-rich blood throughout the body. The LVAD has both internal and external components. The actual pump sits on or next to your heart’s left ventricle with a tube attached that routes the blood to your aorta. A cable called driveline extends from the pump, out through the skin, and connects the pump to a controller and power sources worn outside the body.

The driveline must be connected to the controller and the controller must be connected to power at all times to keep the pump working properly. The pump is powered by batteries or electricity. Each device has specific carrying cases to allow you to move about freely.

ecmo

ECMO (Extra Corporeal Membrane Therapy) is a high end rescue therapy for patients suffering from heart and lung failure but are neurologically intact. The technology provides support during high-risk procedures in the cardiac catheterization lab after a serious heart attack. It acts as a bridge for patients awaiting lung transplant. The ECMO helps keep the tissues well oxygenated, thereby making the candidate suitable for a transplant. When a patient is connected to ECMO, blood flows by tubing an artificial lung in the machine, which adds oxygen and takes out carbon dioxide. Thereafter, the blood is warmed as per the body temperature and pumped back in the body. The right candidates for ECMO Therapy are: Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) secondary to pneumonia, aspiration, severe air leak; Refractory Septic / Cardiogenic Shock; Myocarditis - viral, scorpion sting; Post Arrest shock; Meconium Aspiration; Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia; Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension; and Poisoning.

Dexa Scan

The DXA scan machine is used to measure the Bone Mineral Density(BMD). Comprising of dual X-Ray beams, each beam is of different energy level aimed at the patient's bones. The BMD can be accurately measured based on the absorbtion of each beam by the bones.

X-Ray generator comprises of electrode pair - cathode and anode. When the highly negatively charge cathode rays hit the positively charged anode, large amounts of energy is released which can pass through tissues and organs of the body but not bones which ultimately produces an image of the bones after being reflected.
