Online Consult Resulting In Successful Removal of Recurrent Pancreatic Tumour

in Max Super Speciality Hospital, Patparganj

Nov 23 , 2022

An 18-year-old lady from Mauritius, previously diagnosed with a pancreatic head mass, underwent an attempt at excision of a lesion with gastrojejunostomy in 2017 in Mauritius. She now came with complaints of abdominal pain for the last year. After an initial evaluation in her home country, they consulted initially online and then decided to travel for treatment at Max Super Speciality Hospital, Patparganj.

After a careful evaluation, the patient underwent Whipple’s procedure. She is doing well and has travelled back to her home country.

Solid pseudopapillary neoplasm (SPN) are uncommon tumours of the pancreas that tend to grow locally and invade adjacent structures. Though they do not generally spread to other parts of the body, they can recur locally if not removed completely, as in this patient. For reasons that are not clear, they tend to occur more commonly in young females.

With the availability of an experienced team, a challenging case of recurrent pancreatic tumour could be safely handled after failed previous surgery.
