The Cardiothoracic and Vascular surgery unit at Max Super Speciality Hospital Saket provides comprehensive, dedicated care for various diseases that may affect infants and patients of old age. Our field of expertise ranges from routine cardiac surgeries by maximal incision, which has evolved over to minimally invasive and non-invasive cardiac surgeries now being performed routinely with excellent results and good patient outcomes. It is India's leading Cardiac Valve, Coronary Artery surgery, Thoracic Aorta, and Arch center.
A plethora of adult cardiac surgical procedures are performed by the Department of CTVS. It is the only center in North India with the biggest heart failure treatment program. It includes heart and lung transplants, treatment by mechanical circulatory support (Left Ventricular Assist Devices), and management of patients with heart and lung failure by Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO).
Max Hospital has the largest registry of patients treated by heart transplants and ECMO in North India. The routine, conventional cardiac surgeries are now performed by minimally invasive techniques and include MIDCAB, Minimally Invasive Mitral /Aortic/Tricuspid valve replacement, and more. Improved patient outcomes with lesser duration of hospital stay, minimal scar, early return to work, and lesser financial strains.
In partnership with cardiology and radiology, it is taking the lead in percutaneous heart valve replacements. Non-invasive methods for valve replacement are now performed routinely in patients with high surgical risks, old age, and frail patients with the help of Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI). It can help restore blood flow and reduce the signs and symptoms of aortic valve stenosis.
It is an option for those at risk of complications from surgical AVR and those who have limited choices for aortic valve repair. Similar to placing a stent in an artery, the TAVR approach delivers a fully collapsible replacement valve to the valve site through a catheter. Time of procedure and in-hospital stay is significantly reduced, coupled with painless and scarless procedures.
The wide range of adult cardiac surgical procedures done includes:
-
Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG) – Beating Heart and On Pump CABG
-
Minimally Invasive Direct Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (MIDCAB)
-
Valve replacement surgeries (mitral/aortic/tricuspid valve replacement)
-
Minimally Invasive Valve Replacement surgeries (mitral/aortic/tricuspid valve replacement)
-
Minimally Invasive ASD Closure
-
Multiple valve replacements by conventional and minimally invasive approach
-
Aortic surgeries, including Bentall's procedure for aortic dissection/aneurysm
-
Thoracic surgeries with VATS to treat diseases of the lungs and thorax
-
Advanced Heart and Lung Failure Treatment by heart transplants and lung transplants
-
Advanced heart failure treatment with the help of Mechanical Circulatory Supports, including LVAD / RVAD / BiVAD implantation
-
Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) initiation and management for heart and lung diseases
Our goal is to help the patient and his family cope successfully with diagnosis and treatment.
