Usually, the vagina comprises bacterial and yeast cells, which are in balance with each other. Yeast cells are fungal cells, and the female body contains a specific kind of yeast known as candida. When this balance between the bacterial and yeast cells gets disrupted, the yeast cells grow much more rapidly, resulting in vaginal yeast infections.
